Butterfly - CRAZY TOWNThis years Best Of Singles Chart was compiled from members voting for their favourite songs of the year from well over 200 songs.  It was done this way since we only started the Chart Hitz NZ Chart in September.  Statistics such as peak position, no. of weeks in chart, etc. where not included as they are of little relevance to the system used.
The Best Of 2002 Singles Chart will be based on a points system where every single chart will count towards deciding the Top 50 Singles of 2002.

The Official Chart Hitz NZ Chart:
Best TV Chart Show - New Zealand

TV2, home to Coca-Cola Chart ShowCoca-Cola Chart Show was the clear winner in this category while it was a close race for second place.
Chart Show's 2 hour format of showing the full NZ Top 20 plus "Hit Pics" has made it ideal for music lovers.
While The Pepsi Chart came in at number three, we feel that its audience is limited due to it being screened on TV4 which currently does not have New Zealand-wide coverage.

Best TV Chart Show - International

Top Of The PopsWith only one entry for this category it was hard for it to lose.
At least it deserves to win for it's Award Show, Christmas Show and it's weekly shows.

Note to TV executives: Give us more international Chart Shows!!!


The Official Chart Hitz NZ Chart:
Best Music Related TV Show

Most WantedMost Wanted was the clear winner here.
Bribing people to watch the show obviously paid off for them, but we feel they didn't need to do this as it was already a top quality show.
The remaining shows were on the back foot from the start with their late night slots lessening their chances of rating well.

The Official Chart Hitz NZ Chart:
Best Concert/Performance (Within New Zealand)

ZedWith so many famous acts coming to town this year it was certainly a crowded field.  However, Kiwi band Zed managed to hold off the much stronger international acts to take out the Best Concert/Performance for 2001.
Hopefully in 2002 we'll see the return of many of the international acts plus a lot more new ones.

Best Newcomer

Nelly FurtadoThere was strong competition in this field from new artists who have grown quite a following this year.
The only local artist to make the top 3 was Anika Moa.

Best Overall Artist/Group

Good CharlotteGood Charlotte was the clear winner here.  Kiwi band Zed made number two and was the only local group in this category.  U.K. boy-band Blue came in third after an explosive year for them which saw their first two singles make it to the RIANZ number one position.

In 2002 look out for:
  • The possible demise of Britney Spears as the Princess of Pop
  • Nelly Furtado going from strength to strength
  • Even more local music making the Top 50
  • Yet more "individual comebacks" from the Spice Girls
  • The first full year of Chart Hitz New Zealand Chart
  • Anything else we've missed
